#1097 Verona Renova - Via Sottoriva
Verona, Italy (2020)
from the limited edition series “Verona Renova”

This photograph captures the quiet atmosphere of Via Sottoriva, a street full of historic charm running along the Adige River in April 2020, during the full lockdown. The shot is part of Verona Renova, a project by Alessandro Gloder whose title comes from the anagram of “Verona” and the Latin expression Res Nova (“new thing, renewal”).

The image is included in the book of the same name, Verona Renova, also available for purchase on this website. The absence of traffic and crowds highlights the beauty of the historic buildings, the play of light on the cobblestones, and the charm of urban details normally hidden by the rush of everyday life.

LIBRO VERONA RENOVA

ARE YOU INTERESTED IN THE BOOK VERONA RENOVA?

Verona Renova is a photography book featuring 115 black-and-white images taken in April 2020, during the lockdown, when the city revealed itself in an unprecedented light—silent and devoid of human presence. Conceived as a visual and historical record of a singular moment, the project offers an intimate, suspended view of Verona, portrayed in its architectural and poetic essence.

The volume, in a panoramic 22x31 cm format, includes 160 pages with texts in both Italian and English, written by journalists and scholars of the city. The printing was carried out by Trifolio, a Verona-based leader in the production of photography books, on paper supplied by Fedrigoni.
